In Class Persuasion Exercise (20 points)
Think of a current topic that you feel has two clear, but opposing, sides. Examples may include immigration, gun control, the deficit, homosexuals in the Boy Scouts, legalization of cannabis, or any other topic that you feel strongly about.
Take a position. You do not have to take one of the commonly held, polemic sides, but do figure out where you stand and what you would like to say on the subject.
Gather some evidence for your position. You may use the internet, news articles, scholarly articles, or any other published and documented resource. Make sure to give credit where credit is due. Prepare a, at the most, five minute presentation of the issue, your stance, and evidence that you found. You may also feel free to make an emotional appeal, but be sure to base your claim primarily in logic.
Be prepared to share your presentation on the 1st of October (Tuesday).
not sure if we could get extra credit for posting our topics on here butttttt I'm going to do it anyways. I'm doing my speech on the controversial topic of whether or not teens should be tried as adults when they commit "adult" crimes. I believe they should be tried as adults. That is all. :)
ReplyDeleteGood topic. I'm looking forward to your speech. I'll give some extra credit points for the blog responses.
DeleteI am doing my persuasive speech on "Is Homeschooling Good or Bad?" I am taking the stance that it is Bad. The students score higher on test but, usually do not know how to function in the real world!
ReplyDeleteMy persuasive speech was on the Bad influence and side effects of video games. Are they really all fun and games? I argue that video games are harmful to youth even though teenagers disagree arguing that playing violent games provide a safe outlet for aggressive and hurt feelings - i believe that in reality there only becoming victims of their own build fears. Such violent behaviors have lead many to believe, an association with school shooting . Our own U.S army prepares recruits for the battle field by having them play a first- person shooter, on a game called," Americas Army" .
ReplyDeleteI strongly believe Violent video games are training our youth to be killers.
